Roof Valley Replacement Shellharbour
A valley carries the water off two roof planes at once, so it works harder than anything else up there. When one rusts through, patching it rarely holds, and the leak usually shows up a long way from the valley itself.

Start at the valley, then look beside it
Valleys concentrate a lot of water into a narrow channel, which makes them a genuine suspect whenever a leak shows up nearby. But water can also enter from tiles, ridge ends, flashings or a penetration higher up the slope, then run down and appear at the valley as if that were the cause.
So we check the valley and what feeds into it before recommending anything. Replacing a sound valley because the leak happened to show up near it is an expensive way to not fix a problem.
Is it the valley or something above it?
The valley itself
Rust, perforation, debris packed in the channel, or edges that have lifted or been damaged. This is the obvious candidate and often the right one.
Tiles alongside
Tiles cut to sit against a valley are vulnerable, and a cracked or poorly cut one lets water straight past the channel it was meant to feed.
Higher up the slope
A fault further up sends water down to the valley, where it shows. Fixing the valley would change nothing at all.
The discharge point
Where the valley empties into the gutter. If that is blocked or undersized, the valley backs up in heavy rain and overflows sideways.
Repair or replace the valley?
A contained repair works where the damage is local and the metal around it is sound. Clearing debris and resealing a small area can buy real time on a valley that is otherwise in decent shape, and we will do that rather than upsell you.
Replacement becomes the honest answer when rust has gone through, when corrosion runs along the length of the channel, or when the same valley keeps leaking after previous attention. Valleys carry too much water for a patch to hold for long once the metal has genuinely failed.
Replacing a valley means opening the roof beside it
A valley is not a strip of metal sitting on top of the roof. Replacing it means carefully lifting the tiles along both sides, checking what is underneath, fitting the new valley with correct laps and falls, then cutting and reinstating those tiles so they sit and shed water properly.
Which is why the tiles matter as much as the metal. Cut tiles beside a valley break easily, and if your profile is hard to source that affects the job. We check that before quoting rather than discovering it with your roof open.
Access, weather and what we cannot see yet
Roof pitch, height, brittle or hard-to-match tiles and anything close by all affect how safely we can work and what the job takes. Those things belong in the quote rather than appearing as a surprise.
Weather matters more here than on most jobs, because a valley replacement means an open section of roof. We do not open more than we can make weatherproof before we leave, and we plan the work around the forecast rather than starting and hoping.
Where the new valley starts and stops
A proper valley quote identifies where the new section begins, how the top of the valley is treated, how the laps are formed, and where the runoff discharges at the bottom. Those four things are what decide whether it works, and they are what varies between quotes.
It should also say how many tiles are expected to be replaced, what happens if more break than expected, and whether the adjoining tiles are being reused. Ours does, agreed before we start rather than negotiated with your roof open.
Rusty valley or a leak you cannot place?
Describe where the water shows and when. We will find out whether the valley is actually the cause.
Shellharbour and surrounding areas
We replace roof valleys on homes and commercial properties within roughly 20 km of Shellharbour. Valleys are one of the most common leak sources on older tiled roofs here. See also tile roof repairs if the tiles are the concern.
Useful when you call
Where the stain or drip shows inside, whether it is near a corner or a change in roof shape, whether it only happens in heavy rain, and any photos from the ground of debris or rust in the valley.

What valley replacement costs
Every roof is quoted in writing after we have looked at it. The ranges below are a guide only and cover most Shellharbour homes; size, pitch, access and the condition we find can move a job outside them either way.
Replace a single valley
$600 – $1,500
Multiple valleys on the same roof
$1,500 – $3,500

Valleys carry more water than any other part of the roof, so a rusted valley usually needs replacing rather than patching.
Valley replacement questions
Straight answers to what people actually ask us. If yours is not here, just call and ask.
Does a leak near a valley always mean the valley has failed?
No, and this is worth checking properly. Water entering higher up the slope runs down and appears at the valley, so the valley gets blamed for a fault above it. We trace where the water is actually entering before recommending replacement.
What does valley replacement cost?
A single valley typically runs $600 to $1,500, and multiple valleys on the same roof $1,500 to $3,500. If it is being done as part of a restoration we quote it as a separate line item so you can see it. Every job is quoted in writing.
Can a rusted valley just be patched?
Sometimes, briefly. Clearing debris and resealing a small area can buy time on a valley that is otherwise sound. Once rust has gone through the metal, a patch will not hold for long, because valleys carry more water than anything else on the roof.
Are the tiles beside the valley replaced too?
Only where they need to be. Tiles cut alongside a valley break easily when lifted, so some replacement is normal. We tell you how many we expect and what happens if more break, rather than adding it at the end.
What if my tile profile is hard to match?
We check that before quoting, not after. If matching tiles cannot be sourced it changes the job, and that is a constraint you should be able to weigh up before committing rather than mid-job.
How long does it take?
Most single valleys are a day, weather permitting. We never open more of the roof than we can make weatherproof before we leave, so your home stays protected overnight.
Why does it only leak in heavy rain?
Because the valley copes fine until the volume exceeds what the channel or its discharge point can take. That pattern often points to a blockage or an undersized outlet rather than the valley metal itself.
Should I do it while other roof work is happening?
If access is already set up, yes, it is usually cheaper to combine. We will tell you if your valleys have years left rather than adding them to the job by default.
