Gutter Replacement Shellharbour
Rust, sagging and leaks that keep coming back usually do mean new gutters. But if the real problem is the fall or the outlet, new gutters at the same fall give you the same problem in shinier metal. We check that first.

Four signs your gutters are done
The useful question is not whether they look old. It is whether they can still catch the water and take it somewhere sensible.
Rust coming through
Surface rust at a joint is often repairable. Rust that has gone through the metal is not, and patching it just moves the problem along the run.
Sagging or pulling away
Once the line drops, water pools instead of running to the outlet. That standing water then rusts the low point out from the inside.
Leaking joints
One failed joint is a repair. Joints failing one after another usually means the whole run has reached the end of its life.
Overflowing in heavy rain
The one that is often not the gutter at all. It can be debris, the fall, the outlet size, or a valley dumping half the roof into one short run.
Repair one section or replace the run?
A repair makes sense when the fault is contained and the gutter either side of it is sound. Replacement is the right call when rust, distortion or failing joints have spread along the run, or when the same section keeps needing attention.
You do not have to do the whole house at once. Replacing the runs that have gone while leaving the sound ones is perfectly reasonable, provided the quote is clear about where the new work stops and how it joins the old. We will tell you honestly which runs still have years left.
Profile and colour are the easy decisions
Quad, half-round or slimline in the full Colorbond range is the part everyone enjoys choosing. The parts that decide whether the new gutters actually work are less visible.
The fall
The line has to carry water to the outlets rather than pond in the middle. Plenty of overflow problems we are called to are original fall faults that have been there since the house was built.
Capacity
A gutter has to cope with the roof area feeding it. If a valley concentrates a large roof into one short run, a standard profile may never keep up.
Outlets and downpipes
Sized and placed for the catchment, then water-tested. Too few outlets is one of the most common reasons a perfectly good gutter overflows.
The fascia behind
Once the old gutter is off we can see the fascia properly. If it has rotted we tell you and quote it, rather than screwing new gutters onto bad timber.
The fascia is the bit nobody quotes for
Taking the old gutter off exposes the fascia, the brackets and the roof edge, and that is often the first proper look anyone has had at them in decades. Sometimes they are fine. Sometimes years of overflow have quietly rotted the timber behind.
Our quote separates the gutter work from anything we might find behind it, and we agree how that is handled before we start rather than presenting you with a surprise mid-job. If a quote you are comparing says nothing about the fascia, ask what happens if it is rotten.
Why two gutter quotes differ
Length and corners
Every corner is a join and a labour cost. A simple rectangular home and a complex roofline are very different jobs at the same total length.
Height and access
Two storeys, steep ground or a tight side passage all change staging and edge protection, and it should be visible in the quote.
Outlets and downpipes
How many, where they go and whether they connect to existing stormwater. Replacing a downpipe is usually $250 to $500 each.
What comes off first
Removal, disposal and any fascia work found underneath. Included and itemised, not discovered later.
Be clear about what stays
If you are only doing some of the house, the quote should record exactly which runs, corners, outlets and downpipe connections are being replaced and how the new sections join what remains.
Worth knowing before you choose a colour: matching an existing system is not always possible, because profiles and colours change over the years. We check availability before promising you a match rather than after, so you can decide whether a partial job or a full one makes more sense.
Not sure if it is the gutters or the fall?
That is exactly the sort of thing we check before quoting. Describe what happens and when.
Shellharbour and surrounding areas
We replace gutters on homes and commercial properties within roughly 20 km of Shellharbour. If you are near the edge of that, call with the address and we will tell you straight away. Also see gutter guard if leaf litter is the underlying problem.
Useful when you call
Where the rust, sagging, leaking or overflow is happening, which runs and storeys are affected, whether water still sits in the gutter after rain, and any photos you can take safely from the ground.

Many overflow problems are a fall or capacity fault rather than a blockage. We check that before quoting, because replacing gutters at the same fall repeats the problem.
Gutter replacement questions
Straight answers to what people actually ask us. If yours is not here, just call and ask.
Can I replace just one run of gutter?
Yes, and often that is the sensible thing to do. We will tell you which runs still have life in them rather than quoting the whole house by default. The quote records exactly where the new work stops and how it joins the existing.
My gutters overflow. Do they need replacing?
Not necessarily, and this is the one worth checking properly. Overflow is often the fall, the outlet size or a valley concentrating a lot of roof into one short run. Replace the gutter at the same fall and you get the same problem in newer metal.
What does gutter work cost?
Full replacement runs $2,000 to $6,000 for most homes, gutter repairs $250 to $700, downpipes $250 to $500 each and a single-storey gutter clean $200 to $450. Length, corners, height and access all move the number.
Do you replace gutters when replacing a roof?
Usually it makes sense, because the access is already there and new gutters complete the system. We quote it as a clear option either way rather than folding it in without telling you.
What if the fascia behind is rotten?
We will show you and quote it separately. Screwing new gutters onto rotten timber is a waste of your money, and the honest time to find out is when the old gutter comes off, which is why we agree the process beforehand.
Can you match my existing gutters?
Often, but profiles and colours change over the years and an exact match is not always available. We check before promising rather than after, so you can decide whether to do a partial or full replacement.
How long does it take?
Most homes are a day or two depending on length, corners and access. We remove the old gutters, check the fascia while it is exposed, hang the new ones at the correct fall and water-test the system before we leave.
Will it stop the overflow for good?
If the overflow was caused by the gutters themselves, yes. If it was caused by the fall, the outlets or the roof geometry feeding them, we fix that as part of the job. That is the whole reason we check the water path before quoting.
